  • Boliyan are the very commonly sung Punjabi genre across the region. Love, romance, marriage, occupations- be it farming or spinning or policing, beauty, youth, friendship, devotion etc are sung of, strung to simple tunes and to the notes of the quintessential Punjabi instruments Dholki, Manjeera, Algoza, Tumbi, Harmonium and the clapping of hands. The term ‘Boli’ can varyingly come to mean language, voice, tone and expression, taunts, teachings etc. or even all of these taken together and ‘Boliy
